LASIK eye surgeon Gregory A. Stainer, M.D., has been in private practice in Bakersfield, California since 1981. He began his medical career at Northwestern University in Chicago where he completed his internship at Northwestern Hospital and his residency at the University of Wisconsin. He completed his fellowship training for Corneal & External Diseases at the University of California, San Diego. He has traveled extensively throughout the United States to participate in studies of LASIK and other forms of laser vision correction to resolve nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. In addition, Dr. Stainer has extensive experience with multiple types of lasers for aesthetic and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Kaprielian was born in Fresno, California, and graduated from Sanger High School. He attended Reedley College for two years then transferred to the University of California at Berkeley where he received his undergraduate degree. Dr. Kaprielian continued his education at the School of Optometry at UCB. While attending college he served in the California Air National Guard. Dr. Kaprielian graduated from optometry school in 1974.
Dr. Kaprielian has practiced in Bakersfield since 1975 and joined Dr. Stainer’s LASIK practice in 1990. In 1993, he helped establish the new office, Southwest Eye Care and Laser. Dr. Kaprielian also has additional certification by the California State Board of Optometry to administer certain medications to treat a wide variety of eye disorders.
Cheree A. Wilhelmsen, O.D. was born in Fresno, California. She attended the University of Oregon in Eugene and received her Doctorate of Optometry, as well as a second Bachelor's Degree, at the University of California, Berkeley in 1994. After practicing in Visalia for three years, she joined Southwest Eye Care in February of 1998. Dr. Wilhelmsen has extensive experience in low vision care, contact lenses, and laser refractive post-operative care. She is licensed to prescribe therapeutic pharmaceutical agents and manage ocular health. On a personal note, she is recently married to a local golf professional.
Michael Raney, F.N.A.O., joined Dr. Stainer's LASIK practice in 1993 and helped establish Southwest Eye Care and Laser in Bakersfield, California. Mike has a degree in Ophthalmic Optics and is certified by the American Board of Opticianry. Mike has held positions such as the State Education Chairman for the California Optician's Society as well as the Kern County Chapter President. Mike enjoys the art of fitting glasses and says, "I like to look at each individual and create a pair of glasses complementary to their needs as well as their appearance. I believe people who have to wear glasses should enjoy them." Mike and his fellow opticians Margo Morris A.B.O.C. and Frank Gutierrez, A.B.O.C., have the latest designer frame styles and lens technology available. Together, they create a helpful team with over thirty years’ experience. You may also hear Mike around the Bakersfield, California area making music with his trumpet. He performs with the Bakersfield Symphony and various local jazz and dance bands.
Dr. Wong received her doctorate degree in optometry from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, and she is licensed as an optometrist with therapeutic certification in several States. Upon her graduation, she practiced primarily in New Jersey and Pennsylvania as an optometrist. After she had worked for some years in clinical practice, she decided to take a break and use her expertise in Asia, where their optometry programs are not as advanced as it is in America. So in 2003, Dr. Wong went to Hong Kong, where her birth place is and accepted an academic position in the optometry program at a local university there for two years. She then returned to Southern California and joined Dr. Stainer’s practice here in Bakersfield. California is not new to Dr. Wong since she used to live in Orange County with her family. In addition, she went to California State University, Fullerton for her Bachelor’s degree.
Dr. Emily Marsh joined the practice in 2002 after completing her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri in St. Louis that same year. A native of Kansas City, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Wichita State University in 1998, while a four-year member of the University’s Women’s Basketball team. Throughout Dr. Marsh’s optometric career, she has developed special interest and training in the treatment and management of ocular disease, including glaucoma, which she will be receiving additional credentialing for in early 2007. Dr. Marsh also provides general eye care for all ages of children and adults, as well as diabetic and surgical consultations.
